Financial Planning

Hi. I am interested to know how people with MS are preparing for retirement.

I will be 30 this year. I have a small pension with an a archaeology company I work for on and off and have done for several years now. (That’s the nature of archaeology, very few long term contracts). So that is something.

Was diagnosed with MS at 17. I can probably write off life/health insurance policies.

Looking at becoming a self employed gardener, I am training for an RHS garden qualification. No employer pension would be available so I would have to do one for myself.

Not eligible for PIP, they need to take fatigue seriously it is a debilitating symptom for me but otherwise I can do most things fine, it just takes me much longer to recover from them. At least I can do my job most of the time, I am grateful for that.

Financial advice is what I need, does anyone know any specialists when it comes to our situation? It’s not about benefits, it’s about finding a way of saving that won’t be taken into account if I need benefits one day. There must be a pension option with more freedom for those with long term health conditions who are self employed.

Thanks.

Hi, The Money Advice Service offers free advice by telephone or web chat. It’s a service set up by the government. You might need some advice from a financial adviser.

Hi, thanks, yes that’s what my friend suggested. I have checked it out, very good web site! I think it’s just a case of getting a personal pension and hoping for the best!
