Deciding on medication

I have an appointment coming up to discuss treatment options. Have been given 4 medications that I could take and told to read up on them and decide which one to take. I have no idea where to even start with this. I’m kind of leaning towards Ocrevus as I think I would prefer every 6 months rather than weekly/monthly injections. The side effects for each of them are scary.

It’s a very personal choice of course. My personal approach has always been to ask what is the most effective drug that’s available to me, given how my MS is behaving, and go for that.

I know the side-effects can look scary. And psychologically when you elect to take a drug you kind of feel that you are signing up to take an avoidable risk. In practice the reverse is the case: the really big risks here come from poorly-managed MS being allowed to run rampant. And it’s those big MS risks that you are managing down by taking a DMD.
Good luck with your decision.

You can compare DMT’s on this site and see which one suits your lifestyle best.

That’s exactly how I feel, like I’m signing up to avoidable side effects. You’re right though poorly managed MS is no fun either. I think I just expected the choice to be taken out of my hands and they tell me what to take. Just feels a bit daunting

Yes, it’s tough, and I’m not sure that the medics always give us the clear steer that we all need - they’re the experts after all and we aren’t.

At the risk of overloading you with even more information have you come across these info cards? I think they’re very good – definitely best in class. They are no substitute for some clear direction from clinicians of course.

I was going to say that I would’ve welcomed these cards 25 years ago but that’s not really true because 25 years ago DMDs came in any colour you wanted as long as it was Avonex. Simpler times!

No I have never saw these cards before. Thanks so much for sending them, I will have a good ready through them x
