Alysea, thats similar to the exercises i do at physio. They are tough, good for the balance though.Im crap at them but my physio said that spasticity is not helping and said more baclofen might help.Lifting knee to chest and stretching leg out straight are good as they stretch the hips, hamstrings and Quads.I do them a lot especially if you sit a lot.I do them 4or5 times a day.Do what you can but dont overdo it. J
Thanks Iāll try not to, Iāll try search some exercises sitting down but for drop and stiffness prevent lifting them up a lot I just want stiffness to go away 2 years now driving me mad thatās the worse part of my Ms cause I feel useless I canāt do anything so my mum does it all.
i love a bath but canāt get out without bruises just have no strength in legs at all I try not to complain but does it ever go away full stop, I am abit angry cause I canāt walk cause of it and have a funeral to go to and donāt want to be in a chair yet itās too soon as Iām only young and some PPMS people can walk with just one stick argh.
Just mad had 3 people I know die this month so abit annoyed as you can tell and vertigo wonāt go away will calm down now rant over sorry.
Thanks All xx
Alysea, while sitting down, toe tapping your foot up and down as high as you can helps strenghten your ankles (best i can describe it).think of it as pressing the clutch in a car. That helped me alot.Stiffness drives me mad too,its my main problem.Im the same,my mum does most things for me and tesco online for food. im doing a lot of stretches and got myself exercise bike in argos,it helps a bit.Sorry to hear about the funerals, how sad.Do what you are able to do,no pressure.Take care of yourself.
J
Thanks, I have a exercise bike but cause of stiffness canāt lift leg over to get on it, itās annoying, must be something that can make it go away, once in bed I donāt care but during day must be something that helps.
Any meds I ask for neuro is like I donāt think it helps only person whoās been helpful is my gp.
Wow, Tina, you are great at explaining things. Iāve been lost. Suffering depression with non MS problems. Only now am I starting to come to terms I have MS. I now have anti depressants from the GP & take Baclofen 3x 10mg a day. Going easy on stumbling short distances with a dropped foot. Keeping as active as I can before the energy goes. Youāve made me consider physiology. Iāve been fighting not going in a wheelchair. I need to come to terms with non MS problems. Peace is helping. Hopefully Iāll be seeing a councillor soon too. Talking to happy, sensible people helps. The constant changes in problems, have kept me spinning.
Thank you Tina.
Alysea,i know that stiffness is annoying, its my main problem.I got a foam roller also, kinda helps.Squats(standing up and sitting down) are great, strenghtens the quads. Its the hamstrings for bending legs and quads for straightening. You should warm up before stretching, helps a bit more.Meds annoy me,hate the side effects but we gotta take them.My neuro was the same, told me to go to physio,my gp does nothing either. How annoying.
Bless you exercising does it ease stiffness at all? Neurologist is great but I asked for ldn he said msers swear by it but I dont think it helps I asked for something for stiffness he said I could give you something but it may make your legs weaker Iām 35 I want to walk even if it means using aids.
Bladder I asked for meds he gave me vesicare bladder nurse got me to stop it I really want to walk so if anything I can buy to make it go away I will
Thanks again appreciate it xx
Iām on 60Mg of Baclofen and my GP says that Iām maxed out. I also take 10 Mg TIzanadine and thereās some headroom there. I still get spasms but theyāre nothing compared to what they were.
Alysea,i do exercise and stretching but it only eases it a bit,id love to get rid of it altogether.Iv upped my baclofen to 45mg a day and i dont feel any different, have to wait til july to see neuro.I got myself a hiking pole in lidl and find it great.I drag myself along with it.Im 35 aswell alysea,iv kept myself hidden for 2years,sick of it.Thought when i started Gilenya that things would change.Feel a bit better this year.Baclofen relaxes my bladder a bit,not as bad as before. My neuro suggested Fampyra for walking,id love to try it but its too expensive.Try a hiking pole or cane, might help you feel more confident. J
I use crutches they donāt help much my spasms are at bay not as bad as they was, I just stay at home and wonāt leave house until the stiffness and bladder improve quite abit, so far only thing that has helped is baclofen for spasms and I can cope with them I canāt bend my knees anymore when walking.
Baclofen does help but Iām on a low dose 30mg a day and 300mg of Pregabalin a day thatās all I have and foot drop Iām going to ask neuro about stretching exercises tomorrow just want to be able to walk even if it means using my crutches.
Thanks xx
Alysea,i have that,my knees dont bend but i improved it a bit.My physio suggested botox but it is not that effective my neuro said. When you increase your baclofen you might notice a difference.Talk to the neuro,he might suggest something else.Stiffness drove me mad,i did so much exercise and stretching and it kind of worked. The cold weather isnt helping me these days.Hang in there you will get it sorted.I begged my neuro for iv steroids lastyear and i got them, was like a new person for a few months.Maybe a baclofen pump is an option, hear great things about it tooā¦
Iām positive 60mg isnāt the top dose of Baclofen. Itās what Iām on, and is considered high for someone as (relatively) able-bodied as me, but when Iāve tried to reduce, I havenāt been as able-bodied, so catch-22. Itās all very well the experts saying: āWell, look at you, someone with your level of spasticity doesnāt need 60mg of Baclofen!ā - but without it, I wouldnāt have āmy level of spasticityā - Iād have much worse.
Anyway, sorry for the rant - I digress. 60mg is definitely not tops.
Tina
Rather avoid injections lol had enough with LP, but Iāll increase exercise and baclofen dose, thank you jimmy x
