you poor thing prairiemarmot⦠my heart goes out to you as that must have been really unpleasant for you to experience. were the staff supportive? xx
hi albrecht durer- i am male (although i realise that the name may sound androgynous), just to help answer that question!
i have experienced some constipation recently as iāve been hitting the co-codamol for pain relief. that has been unpleasant, and i hope that you are managing to get some relief from this. your mum sounds like a real scream- i would love to pick her brains for some stories. it must have been a nice upbringing with a parent who has a healthy openness to such matters, which i try to instil in my kids, although i have issues when my eldest son has his hands almost permanently down his pants!
thanks for your understanding, and i hope that youāre managing well as you sound you are (if that makes sense). you sound like youāre a real fighter, and long may you remain victorious my friend.
kind of tricky when youāre on the loo! x
Hi fluffyollie i experience both problems i have nerve stimulation treatment for the bladder incontinance at my local hospital which helps greatly and drink cramberry juice as for the bowel incontinance ive experienced only a few times in the past few months and recently found out it could be down to a certain medication im taking for gastric reflux not sure if this is of any help all the best x
I have the same problem, tena pads are great and I always have a small pack of baby wipes with me. Its a hard subject to talk about isnt it? But once you do you realise that is it so common. your MS nurse will have heard it hundred of times before so dont be embarrassed to ask for help.

hi
i often get constipated and use food to help.
porridge with fresh figs makes me feel like i am likely to go soon after.
instead of going straight to the loo only to be told ānot yetā, i wait downstairs and when i eventually go upstairs the climbing motion does the trick.
so thereās no need to buy anything - just walk up and down stairs a lot!
having said that, my walking up and down stairs isnāt very good.

Carole - yes the walking up the stairs is good exercise to get the bowels moving. Another trick is to sit on the loo with your knees bent right up with feet on a stool. l have those free-standing rails around my loos that help me get up and down - they are brilliant for placing your feet on. This ungainly position does help get things moving.
Magnesium - which we all need - is also a laxative as well as helping with cramp and muscle pain.
I control the constipation for food too; oats, beans, dried fruit, whole grains etc., and use the feet up on a stool trick whilst sat on the throne. That raised feet position really does help, doesnāt it, as does patience. Though if Iāve eaten a bean and veggies based tea the day before things are usually quick and easy and donāt give me that ānot yetā message.
I could do with walking up and down stairs more regardless, just to get me moving a bit more, I just rarely think of it. Maybe Iāll go do a bit right now!
