Intermittent fasting/5:2 diet

Thanks for the info, I was looking at them on amazon too! Jools x

One thought on all this diet lark is are you ensuring you have enough food in your stomachs to ensure safe absorbtion of meds that require food?

I say this because of the horrendous ulcer problems my mom had due to constantly skipping food but religiously taking meds.

As the consultant put it she had burnt holes in her stomach linning.

I would love to be thinner but I do ensure when the meds say anything about taking with/after food I ensure its more than a biscuit.

You shouldn’t go below 800 calories on any day. Everyone uses 1600 calories a day just by living even when sat on their bottoms. You’d be better to:

  • Cut down big time on sugar, wheat and white potatoes.
  • Never eat after 9pm or before 9am.
  • You need healthy fats like olive oil.
  • You need protein.
  • Think simple and natural - salmon and roast veg, herby chicken and vegetables, banana and plain yoghurt etc
  • You can enjoy a glass of wine, you can have a chunk or two of chocolate (pure and dark is best - green&blacks do some delicious ones) but don’t have more than one glass or a whole bar of choc

Good luck whatever way you choose!

Mmmm, Deb, that’s my sort of diet. A square or of 2 of thin, dark chocolate, small glass of wine and a good protein + veg meal.

We cook a chicken on Saturday, in a pot with homemade chicken stock, white wine and veggies. We boil up the remaining stock and keep it in jars in the fridge.

2 or 3 times a week we make chicken broth, with good stock and lots of veggies and that’s the diet days. I have a dessert of a greek yoghourt and linseeds and chopped apple or whatever else is around and the linseeds fill me up.

When I get to my target weight, (or size) then I’m going to eat the same way, but with more fats and protein + quinoa. No bread or potatoes and very small portions of Basmati rice - and more fruit. It all depends on my blood glucose levels.

I do feel better and more alert this way.

Just making mulligatawny soup with my left over chicken /carcass lots of celery/onions/garlic/leeks and some brinjal pickle and lentils. lts all in the pressure cooker ‘hissing’ away. And in the slow cooker is steak/kidney and loads of veg and tin toms. When l came indoors just now - after taking my dogs over the fields in the snow - the wonderful aroma met me as l came into the kitchen.

The sky looks full of snow - l have placed my boots next to the boiler to keep warm - and l have brought in lots of logs for the wood-burner.

l did do a few minutes on my cross-trainer and my healthrider machine before coming in and taking off my ‘eskimo outfit’. Thats warmed me up - and l shan’t feel so guilty about sitting by the fire this afternoon.

l also like linseeds[flaxseeds] with greek yoghurt and banana. l eat at least two bananas a day. My mum - who is 89 yrs young eats lots of bananas and apples. Bananas are high in potassium - and l think this is why she is so fit and alert. She spends hours doing crosswords/reading/cross-stitch. Which keeps her brain active.

Before the snow - we made sure our elderly neighbours and my mum were stocked up with readymeals and essentials - and our freezers and cupboards are full. Plus, we have 3 brace of pheasants hanging up waiting to be sorted out. l don’t bother plucking them - l just skin them and use just the breast and legs.

Keep safe and warm everyone.

Hi Frances, re spirulina…when I looked it up on google/amazon, the dosage said. take 3 x 3 tablets day, 30 mins before food. That`s a lot tablets, plus it makes it expensive.

But I saw it at a loval health food shop and ther dosage on the bottle said, take 3 - 6 tablets in between meals. I reckon I`d prefer that method.

I asked the asistnat if it is safe to take spirulina with prescribed meds. She asked if I take any hormones and I said not. She said that was alright then.

I have talked to my morning carer about it, as she wants to lose some weight too. Then she said she is on thyroxin…that`s a hormone, isnt it? If so, then she shouldnt take it, eh?

Same goes for anyone on HRT.

Think I`ll post that fact, to alert anyone thinking of trying spirulina.

I love the way you help others, both here and in your locale.

Bless you.
