Why can't I clean my windows!!!!

Good morning all, I know this is not ms related but WHY can I not clean my windows properly? I have used all sorts of products and cloths, but whatever I try I am left with smears that make the windows look worse than when I started. Any ideas would be VERY gratefully received, (and make my day, literally, brighter), Best wishes, Sue x

hiya

i believe vinegar in the bucket makes them sparkle-if u can stand the initial smell!

i have window cleaner-no bucket and ladders nowadays-he has machine that reaches high windows and my cleaner does inside.

good luck!

Oh boy it’s horrible when you’re left with smears after all that hard work. I use white vinegar in warm water, wipe with kitchen roll then polish with an e-cloth… Bit like those micro fibre cloths only better, Lynn

I’m not a big one for housework - even less so, since developing MS. However, one tip I read or heard somewhere years ago was to finish off with newspaper. I can’t remember the reasons for it - it may be something to do with the absorbency, but I seem to remember it had more to do with the actual print. On the rare occasions I ever get round to cleaning windows, I still do it. That is, clean in the usual way with Windowlene or whatever, then buff it up with newspaper, using it as a cloth. I don’t know for sure if it’s any better than not bothering, as I haven’t done a detailed study. Might be worth a try, though. Tina

My brother in law is a window fitter, he once told me the best way to get streak free Windows is to wipe in a vertical motion on one side and horizontal on the other. To be honest I’ve never tried it, as I’ve got a window cleaner! Might be worth a try!

Good luck!

I feel your pain! I’ve tried everything, but have finally reverted to a bowl of soapy water and a squeegy tool like a proper window cleaner uses, then a quick wipe round the edges with a dry microfibre cloth. It’s the only way I can get smear free windows.

The my cat sneezes, or climbs through and slides down the pane and I have to start all over again …!

I clean with warm soapy water and squeegee the worst off then buff up with newspaper. Wipe the frames with a cloth though as newspaper will leave them black (especially on white uPVC).

I’m with Tracey - newspaper is great. I am forever removing “nose art” left by the dogs. Would love to employ a window cleaner but they seem in very short supply in my neck of the woods.

Karcher window vac will end all end your window cledaning woes forever, you can get an extenion pole too now, they are brilliant! Whey you think how much money (on products) and how much of your valuable energy you expend, they are worth every penny, and getting cheaper by the week.
