What Diet Are You Using?

Hi everyone. I am 42 and from NC. This new study says plant based diets may benefit people with multiple sclerosis. What plant-based (I guess I should say Vegan) diet have you used that worked best?

I am on a see food diet. See food and eat it lol.

Nah i try my best to follow the MS diet by that George Jalinek who has MS but its hard as you have to cut out a lot of stuff i like.

I dont mind eating copious amounts of fish, but i do like my cheese which is made of dairy and according to him its a no no. i HAVE tried non diary cheese but its like eating soap lol.

I am very good though.

My breakfast this morning was gluten free toast with half a tin of sliced mushrooms. Then a bowl of fresh fruit and coconut milk.

Lunch/dinner at 2pm i had plaice in breadcrumbs, plain new potatoes with advocado spread, and peas, and for my tea, i will have a low fat yogurt with blueberries and grapes, and a packet of gluten free crisps with some olives. I drink lots of water, and occasionally ginger beer.

So yeh thats kind of my diet lol.

But truly, apparently plant based diet works well. And it’s good for all people as well.

Hey crazy chick… i believe the Jelinek diet is the Swank diet (but is just more difficult to spell).

I too miss my stinky cheeses, and i’m not about to go tofu. a compromise however, which is acceptable (to rule makers and taste buds) is goat’s cheese! especially the spreadable versions.

i have had to quit my thai curries though as i understood coconut products were too high in saturated fats? i might be wrong if you go for the skinny variety? in any event, i have replaced bovine juice of almond milk and it does the job! in fact, i thin it tastes more like milk than milk (you just have to overlook its slightly greyer colouration)

buon appetito!

I’ve been having a crack at this ‘mimic fasting’ that is only proven to improve MS for mice so far BUT I’ve lost almost a stone but very slowly (2-3 months) which is fairly healthy and I’ve had a couple of small improvements. More importantly to me, it’s not too hard and I can fit it around my husband eating normally.

I watched a Michael Moseley programme and real fasting does help the body to create new neural pathways - what’s not to love about that. I could never do a real fast as meds just wouldn’t allow it.

Also quite importantly, I’m not starving, it’s not as hard as the 5:2 diet and I’m taking Tecfidera without having any tummy problems Oh, and you eat normally on the other 4 days Food shop is a bit better on cost too.

I’m going to blog it soon but basically it needs to be 3 consecutive days each week and it’s half calories for those days, so 1,000 cals a day for those days. I’m having a couple of weeks off, I eat gluten free and the GF chocolate digestives my husband bought me were too tempting. I’m starting again Monday tho… and now I’ve written this I think there’s a lot of plus points and with a bit of simple common sense, you can tick all the boxes on correct nutrients
