weird sleep problems

I have SPMS, I take 100mg Gabapentin x3 a day and 150mg Amitriptyline at night, sometimes I fall asleep where I am sitting and sometimes I make it to bed.

Now the problem I have is weird, my wife gets me up 7am every morning, if I have made it to bed I am totally wasted in the morning and usually talk crap and cant stay awake until about 11:30am, specific, I know, however if I fall asleep in a seat I wake up about 5:30 - 6:00am by myself, NOT wasted and NOT talking crap, and am usually very lucid and we don’t know why.

It doesn’t matter what time I go to bed or fall asleep at this always happens.

It’s getting to the point I’m quite happy to fall asleep in the seat, and my wife agree’s.

One of the thing’s that always seem’s to happen is when I lie on the ground or the floor or when I take a bath, it’s makes me dizzy and sick, like a kind of sea sickness, weird eh!

HAS THIS HAPPENED/HAPPENING TO ANYBODY ELSE ON HERE???

AND SHOULD I BE WORRIED???

hiya

it may be wierd but u r not alone!

i cant manage a bath,in fact, i havent got one (got it taken out) so dunno re that but i cant lie on floor (physically i cant) but felt as u describe after being flat recently for mri. in bed i must have 2 pillows and head must be high. maybe similar?

am i worried? no. i believe its all to do with recent relapse (with started 25 june) and i am still struggling! my daughter aged 11 was pushing me in wheelchair and i felt sick! very wierd! i guess the balance area has been affected, along with various others!

look forward to reading any other replies u get

Hi - that is an interesting situation! I would say it has more to do with sleep cycles and whether you wake naturally or are woken up unnaturally. Do you ever wake naturally when in bed rather than being woken by your wife? Or vice versa, does she ever wake you from sleeping in your chair? That would be an interesting experiment. We generally have 4 hour sleep cycles so if you wake naturally you will be in a light phase of sleep whereas if you are woken unnaturally you may be aroused from a deep phase of sleep and then be groggy etc - it won’t actually matter how many hours sleep you’ve had more than when you are woken.

I may be totally wrong of course but I’d say it’s something worth considering. I’d be interested to know!

To add to the mix,I’m saying,“Blood flow”.In a chair your head is above your body(apart from Ann Bolyn),in bed it’s at the same level as your body. The bath and the dizzinausea things may be something to do with t’inner ear.Maybe you could try raising the head end of the mattress by 4-6 inches (sorry Brussels).'Praps your drug regimen needs looking at.

I have woken up naturally in bed but once up I can’t seem to control my sleep and nod of again, it’s never happened if I’ve fell asleep in the seat, once awake that’s me.

dont we get some weird stuff going on,i have been in a very bad relapse since april, and found that i cant lie on my left side, i cant look to the left, and if i try i feel really bad,so dont even try now,i know i have lesions on the right side of my brain stem,i was told that on diagnosis,so i know that these lesions are causing my left sided problems, but i also have some days where about 1 pm i start to feel as though i am loosing my mind, and it always lasts 4 to 5 hours then eases off,i dare not tell others, they think i am mad already, also in the past i would get severe vertigo at 11am every day,for months.i also find that in the house alone i am fine, then when the family come home,i get weird stuff happening.
