I have seen a lot of ads on my social media recently for a product called StepNura which uses EMS to help the muscles with foot drop. I am really struggling with foot drop at the moment and have done for many years. It’s getting worse and my major worry is that it will lead to me not being able to drive.
Has anyone heard of this StepNura before or has anyone got one and can say if it is effective or not, I am willing to try anything but don’t want to waste my money either.
Lots of websites / Tiktok / FB-Insta sites have sprung up but they are all selling the same EMS Product that’s made in China.
Try keying in “EMS Foot Massager Mat Electric Pad Blood Muscle Circulation Relief Pain LED USB” to eBay. Currently from £5.49 each - I bought 2 !
They do work - sort of - but wouldn’t say it has changed my life…
Have you asked your MS Nurse about foot drop? Mine referred me to NHS physio services with experience of supporting MS folk. They tried a FES device (Functional Electrical Stimulation) - something you wear around your calf/ ankle and sends small electric pulses. Unfortunately it didn’t work on me . They also gave me something that is worn around your lower calf/ ankle with stretch cords that attach to my shoes in a way that lifts the front of my foot. It sort of works.
I have had foot drop for many years now. I’ve had the support you are talking about and I currently wear alower leg brace all in one with a m shoe insert whenever I leave the house. FES was horrible and didn’t agree with me. I am looking to see whether this EMS stuff can really help to get the muscle more active
I can only guess that the Step Nura might not work for MS folk although perhaps it might stimulate the development of new neural pathways in the brain and spinal cord? Sorry, I’ve no experience of it
I’ve seen quite a few products like this advertised online, but I’d be cautious about spending money based on social media adverts alone. It might be worth asking your MS team or a physiotherapist whether EMS/FES would be suitable for your particular foot drop and whether they have any experience with StepNura. Hopefully someone who has actually used it can share their experience.
I’ve had a FES for 3 years for foot drop. It’s not perfect ie have to adjust electrodes to achieve optimum stimulation and skin can become excoriated if FES is applied every day. But …it’s made a big difference to my walking albeit using sticks or rollator , no dragging my right foot !

For foot drop, I’d focus on finding an option that feels comfortable and supports your walking routine.
You obviously ignored my post above. I have the exact same thing and paid £7 each for them. Well, the same apart from the word Stepnura on the box (though the box is otherwise the same).

These things are coming out of the far east for a fiver, yet with a brand name, a fancy website front end, reviews and recommendations, they are attracting orders at 10x the price.
