I’ve had ms for 10 years now, but the last year my bowels are moving more than 5 times a day, it’s getting so frustrating with the need to go and the barely any warning is really getting to me, it’s like it appears and needs to move straight away and running to the toilet, all the movements are different each time never the same twice in a row
Hey @aaron I have ‘the running to the loo several times a day for a wee’ thing going on and have had for the last few months. I’ve got RRMS and was diagnosed 8 years ago. It is frustrating as hell, agreed especially when you have to go out and don’t always know where the nearest loo is!
I’ve started limiting the amount of water I drink ahead of knowing when I have to go out just to pre-empt any accidents.
That’s all I can think of suggesting for now - oh and avoid drinking diuretics like tea!
That sounds like something that would just make life impossible.
Have you spoken to a GP about it? If you start there, they can check the full range of things that might be going wrong with your bowels… some of which are very much treatable. They can refer you to gastroenterology if necessary. I’ve had bowel issues that were completely unrelated to MS.
Sorry to hear about your problem. It’s happened to me a couple of times but in general it’s not something that troubles me . I would do what @Leonora suggest and speak to your GP or MS Nurse who has probably advised other MS folk with bowel problems.
I was diagnosed with overactive bladder before my MS being diagnosed. I feel I was given wrong medication. Im suffering so many problems with bladder. Im seeing GP tomorrow and i need advice on this.
Get a referral to your local bowel and bladder continence service. These are all over and brilliant. You need to find out exactly what the problem is .Get a urology referral too from gp and speak to your neurologist.( Although bowel and bladder service probably better) Look up bowel and bladder online as website gives you loads of help and information.sign up .
@aaron yes, I’ve had the bowels problems for a few months now. There’s been a few very close calls and unfortunately for me there’s been a couple of occasions when I’ve not reached a toilet in time. It does make things difficult at times. Have to think about things a bit more now when I’m going out. As @viv.ward61 says.. there is the incontinence service. I believe that you can self refer to them. At least I think that you can in Norfolk where I live. Or maybe the peristeen irrigation system that @claret57 suggested. Wishing you well with whatever your next step is.
