This is brilliant, Dame Sarah Gilbert has explained simply and honestly about Covid, the vaccine development, what comes next for Covid and pandemics of the future.
I honestly believe that anyone who disbelieves in the necessity for vaccines, in particular vaccines for coronavirus, who watches this will have a rethink. I’m not saying you/they will definitely change their minds, it will just give you more knowledge and understanding and that can only be a good thing.

Think people who question the vaccine haven’t experienced the horrendous effect of Measles, Mumps, Rubella. Smallpox, Diphtheria, Whooping cough, Polio, Annually changing Flu strains and Tetanus to name a few.

I think people are now beginning to realise that though the vaccines may not prevent Covid infection, they are making the disease effects much milder.
There seems to be a bit of complacency with some who have had Covid that they have better immunity than those who have had the two jabs, so don’t need the vaccine, but I notice that the virologists are stressing that they have considerably less immunity than the double jabbed and do need to get a vaccine jab.

i was booked for my booster. sat all day waiting for the doctor to arrive, no one came. that was a monday, on wednesday i got a phone call, sorry we didnt come we had over run. we will put you down for the next home visit run, so i havent heard anything.
am i worried NO. It would seem this omicron for now is not playing nice with the old vaccines, and also is reinfecting people who have had DELTA and the other one.
I think everyone should be double vaccinated as it will be a deterrant, but do i think the scientists know what their talking about. I hold the 5th amendment on that one. I wouldnt mind but they all contradict each other.
I followed Proffeser Peter Piot who put together the curriculum for the course I was on for the London school of hygeiene and tropical medicine he was the pioneer of AIDS and EBOLA and got covid at the beginning. He explained back then how important vaccination was and even said there was one on the shelf for over 10 years, as they the virologists and scientist knew we would eventually be hit by a virus. they already had a vaccine in oxford and she just had to tweak it when they found what the virus was and made of.
I listened to what she had to say.
HOWEVER, my arguement is this. why booster jab everyone in the 1st world countries, when places all over the world like africa 3rd world do not have vaccination programmes. we need to be vaccinating EVERYONE in the world who travels. without vaccination the virus is just spreading and mutating along the way.
it would be better instead of all these wordly governments getting together about CLIMATE CHANGE, they got together and VACCINATED THE WORLD. there will hardly be any point in climate change if another nasty virus does come and hit us hard as she has said. VACCINATE is the only way.
i think anyone travelling anywhere now should have a certificate of vaccination for SARS-COV-2. As they cant travel. no different to the ones we had to have to go to africa, cholera, smallpox and yellow fever. I couldnt go to kenya without YF jab.
ITS THE ONLY WAY to stop a disease you may get it mild but the trouble is with vaccination it gives people false sense of security. The virus is clever it will give so many people the disease mild. THEY DONT FEEL ILL. therefore they dont have SARS. the idea of the LFT is to find out who has it ASMPTOMATIC. to stop the spread. so two things.

You can enter with a vaccine certificate right? But you could still have SARS, so having an LFT hopefully will weed them out.

I told my family after i did my course this SARS would be with us beyond 2024, and i do not change my mind.
I agree with you about vaccinating the world. Maybe the scientists should be figuring out how to massively upscale production so the next time we find a vaccine that works on a given virus the less developed countries could all be vaccinated? Regardless of logistics. Someway might be found eventually to stop the virus from transmission full stop. So yes, vaccination is the answer, but vaccinating one country against one variant won’t do it.
As for 2024, maybe that’s too soon. This variant has developed and travelled the globe so fast, if we’re not careful we’ll all catch the next variant and half of us will die. Spanish Flu or bubonic plague style.

not really. to be honest i think the mistake was the beginning. After doing the course for me this should have been packaged differently.
they called it the CORONA VIRUS right sounds like fizzy pop, people didnt take it seriously enough, then they called it COVID.
Now back in 2002, they said they had found SARS in china, a SEVERE, ACUTE RESPIRATORY SYNDROME that ate lungs and KILLED YOU if you were weak, RIGHT.
I remember it well the PANIC it caused but people didnt fly and they became really aware, this way came the BOOGEY MAN.
it DISAPPEARED IN TWO YEARS…still left over 8,000 DEAD very quickly.
Perhaps if they had said The Who, we have been HIT AGAIN BY A NEW VARIANT of SARS1 we had in 2002. We are calling it SARS-cov-2. (covid19 for short). SO we now have SARS again in the world SHUT DOWN YOUR AIRPORTS.

ICTV announced “severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)” as the name of the new virus on 11 February 2020. This name was chosen because the virus is genetically related to the coronavirus responsible for the SARS outbreak of 2003

Good post CC. I think, after reading the link that you are completely right. The panic was necessary. It seems absolutely clear that there was a deliberate choice to separate the virus (SARS-CoV-2, as named by ICTV) from the disease (Covid19, named by the WHO). I’d never read it quite so clearly. And of course, it’s what you’ve been saying for a long time.

Interesting about names. I’m not sure it would have made any difference to the likes of Johnson, Trump etc.
Fortunately in SARS 1 people developed symptoms before they became infectious. It is reported that no one caught SARS 1 off anyone in a pre-symptomatic stage. By isolating people with symptoms they could control its spread.
With SARS 2 - Covid 19 it spreads from asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic people. Much harder to isolate. Much harder to stop.
therfore call it what it is, it isnt a silly corona fizz (drink), its a deadly and very clever virus.
