I need to reduce my hours at work but financially this would be very hard,to get the disability element of tax credits i would need to be claiming another benefit which would have to be PIP ive heard this is very hard.Anyone had experience of this?

Hi

It’s fairly complicated to answer your question. Have a look at the http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/ website or the CAB site Personal Independence Payment - Citizens Advice

Sue

If you reduced your hours would you be entitled to working tax credits?

With the disability element of working tax credits you can work reduced hours.

What is the the disability element of tax credits? i have never heard of this…thanks Xx

Try looking at the Disability Rights UK webpage: http://www.disabilityrightsuk.org/tax-credits-extra-money-due-disability

That’ll give you some useful information.

There are some documents on the Gov.uk website which contain entitlement tables for those on working tax credits and have no disability and then with disability. To give an idea of the amount of entitlement.

The gov.uk site Lenny mentions above has a useful calculator to see what tax credit you could be entitled to. You have to work a minimum of 16 hours a week if you have a disability and lots of other things in your family income are taken into account. So PIP isn’t taken into account but if your OH gets carer’s allowance that is.
