Over the last week or so I have been having really severe pain in my left calf, It’s like the worst type of cramp i could imagine.
It’s a bit frightening wakes me up feeling like my leg is going to explode. I’ve been trying to ignore it as lots of other things going on at the moment to keep be busy!
Today though the pain has been constant, making it almost unbearable to walk.
Just wondered if ayone else had had the same symptoms, and what did you do about it?
Have you sought medical advice yet? If not, then it’s time you did. Is there any visual sign that there is something wrong with a vein? If not it could be a relapse, or even a UTI (they can bring on relapse type symptoms).
I had severe pain in my right calf last year in March. It came as no surprise really as things had been brewing for a month, more fatigue than usual, a tight band round my ankle at times and some stiffness in my foot.
Things came to a head when my son kindly drove us to a pub for a meal so I didn’t have to cook as he knew how tired I was. We then went to look round a new superstore that had opened. I had made it to the far end of the store when my leg seized up with a feeling like you describe. It felt like someone had clamped my calf in a vice and the pain was wicked. I could barely walk and could only manage a few shuffled steps before leaning on the shelves and pant for a while before trying a few more steps with tears in my eyes. Very embarrassing! I then collapsed on the seating area near the tills while my son paid for his goods. I put my feet up and massaged my calf so I could make it to the car.
I phoned my nurse the next day and asked for steroids as I knew I needed them. By the time I had arranged them through GP and pharmacy another two days had passed and I was even more seized up. The pain and stiffness was constant and just crossing the living room left me breathless. The steroids did their job though and by the end of the week I was moving more easily.
I hope it passes quickly for you. I had a similar relapse just three months later affecting the left leg and am still using a walking stick if I need to walk any distance. My walking has improved a lot though, it is mostly just my balance that causes problems now.
thanks for the reply. Am waiting for ms nurse to call me back. I havn’t told him about my leg yet, left a message for him because I’m to start using dmd’s.
I sat for two and a half hours saturday having a tattoo on my shoulder, would rather go through that pain again than put up with this pain in my leg!
There’s nothing visible on my leg to say it could be a vein. The way you described it like being in a vice is very apt!
It’s all a bit scary I don’t want to blame everything on ms but am hoping this is ms and nothing worse!
