I was told 2 weeks ago that I need a SPC fitting. I was told to expect a10 week wait. I got a letter today to say the procedure is on Monday next week. Well only 2 sleepless nights to fret about it.

it’s mad when some appointments take forever to come but others are immediately dealt with.

Good luck with it Paul. Mine is now 8 days old. The surgery was as easy as pie. No pain, no problems at all. Since then there have been some teething problems but I’m sure life will be better with it than without. Have you had an indwelling catheter previously? Or is this your first? I suspect that the experience is different for those who’ve had an indwelling to those who haven’t.
Oh and don’t be surprised to see blood in the urine, including clots of blood. People (medical professionals) told me “there may be some blood”, but I was rather surprised to see so much of it, only to then be told “oh that’s normal”!
If you have any problems or questions, obviously you’ll have your local community nurses to help out, but the people on here have been fabulously supportive. In particular Poll, who’s an old hand, and Shazzie, who’s got more recent experience.
I’m learning about mine everyday.

Hello
i have never used an in dwelling one before & have to have one due to retention. Just a bit worried about the impact it may have at work.

To be honest, I don’t think there’s a typical reaction exactly. It’s quite likely that I’ve had more trouble than many people because I am so badly disabled. So the less moving around you do, the harder it is to get it working properly. And depending on your level of continence, you might bypass more or less. All you can do is see what happens. Don’t expect that you’ll be having the op on day one and by day two all the problems have been ironed out, that’s all I’d say. It takes a few days to get used to the new system and because you have a wound in your abdomen, there will be an element of soreness and / or delicateness around that area.
But chances are, you’ll deal with it just fine and there’ll be little or no impact on you regarding work. What people often say is that there’s a lot more people than you think with an SPC.
