New DMT for PPMS and RRMS

Here’s a link to an article about ocrelizumab which works as a DMT for PPMS as well as RRMS. Not available yet, but coming.

My fingers are crossed to the point of cracking, with hope that this promising looking study finally yields something by which the ‘progressive’ members of our family can fight the good fight.

It is also interesting how the comparison of new trial drugs, is usually against Interferon; but i guess it is in their best interests to ‘set the bar low’. Not that this is of any reassurance to those still using it as their DMD of choice.

Fingers crossed crack

New drugs for RRMS are tested against an existing treatment ( in this case against interferon) because it would be unethical to test against a placebo when there are many proven drugs already.

The PPMS trial for Ocrelizumab was against a placebo because there is nothing on the market that has any efficacy to test against.

It is certainly excellent news that the PPMS trial showed positive results.

Well - l shall be watching out for this in hope it gets some results soon. Any trial on people with PPMS - will show straightaway any benefits- unlike anything for RRMS -when it is so possible for a ‘remission’ to confuse the outcome.

My age - and length of time suffering with PPMS - seems to always be the deciding factor as to whether l can be accepted for a ‘trial’ or treatment. But l would be willing to be a guinea pig - as l have nothing to lose.

Yes, I’ve had my eye on this as they rushed it thru approval in the US from what I read. Crossing fingers I can get on it!

Spacejacket, you’re so right! I went on a trial for that very reason, pointless doing nothing really. Mine didn’t work out but I’m waiting to hear back on another, just for a drug to manage spasticity but if there’s a 50% chance it might help me then I’m in!
