New diagnosis

I am 39 yrs old, I developed Optic Neuritis 4 weeks ago following a brief flu-like illness. I have some eye pain and colour desaturation in my right eye but my acuity is fine. I had an MRI within 2 weeks which unexpectedly and devastatingly has shown numerous white matter demyelination lesions . I have never had any previous neurological symptoms. I am due a Lumbar Puncture soon, but it clearly looks likely I have MS. I am understandably devastated, and severely depressed. I do not feel there is any point starting any disease modifying drug regime as progression is inevitable. I am genuinely considering just ending it all as I do not feel I have much to live for.
