Hi everyone,
Just received not so good news from my MS nurse…she’s leaving my hospital and becoming an assessor for Atos.
I am so sorry she is leaving as she is a very kind compassionate person, deals with any problems I have quickly and she is easy to talk to. Don’t know who I’m going to get now.
Atos are lucky to get her and at least patients will have someone on the panel who knows what they are talking about and will have a sympathetic ear.
Hi Fudgey,
I would have thought that’s a pretty shortlived job - does she know they resigned the contract early?
I would also have thought it’s rather disheartening for anyone who IS committed to patient welfare to become an ATOS assessor, as they are so constrained by the “tick box” criteria. She might find herself in the position of having to “fail” people she personally thinks deserving, because their evidence doesn’t tick all the right boxes.
I can only assume they must have made it well worth her while, in comparison with NHS salaries. Either that, or she didn’t think the NHS job was very secure these days either, so decided to jump before she was pushed.
I hope you do get someone decent instead, but I’m half suspecting they’ll just lose the post, and call it “natural wastage”. Sorry - hope I’m wrong.

Hi It’s always a shame when a person who you have a good relationship with leaves their job, especially when their role can be such a lifeline for you. I hope the next person can fill that gap. ATOS, although they have a poor reputation assess for more than ESA & pip (they are leaving the ESA contract but keeping pip as far as know). We must not judge your nurse. She may be assessing people for ill health retirement or workplace assessments as many companies use ATOS as occ health providers. They are a massive company who have a poor name in two areas but are very good in others. She may not have moved to the ‘dark side’ so don’t think bad of her. A change in career may be dictated by other things (lifestyle, location of home, work/life balance, health). I changed jobs because of health. People would judge me if they knew where I worked now. I hope your nurse can provide the care she gave you in her new role & her replacement can be as good as she is. Neil
