Hello everyone, and happy holidays. So, I moved to the UK in 2004, and I have settled status here as a European. Since I have spent 20 years studying, living and working in the UK, I was thinking of getting naturalised in 2025, but I need to take the Life in the UK test. I have RRMS, so I wonder if I could be excluded from taking this test because of my condition. Even though my MS is not currently active, I am worried that preparing to take the test will cause me loads of stress, and of course, stress can cause relapses, even though I am on plegridy. My two previous relapses included optic neuritis and both hands going numb, and I was unwell for several months. Has anybody managed to receive permision not to take this test as part of their naturalisation process, because of their MS? Thank you.
Hey, happy holidays to you too!
There is a possibility to be exempt from the test due to medical reasons, but it’s not automatic. You’d need a letter from your doctor explaining how your MS affects your ability to prepare for or take the test. This letter has to clearly show how it impacts your health or ability to meet the requirement.
Hope this helps, and good luck with the process!
