Followed up from Brain MRI and Neuro said she did not see anything abnormal. ( Cervical and Thoracic are being done Feb 6th) However, on the written report it states:
1.Diffuse Pallor of the deep cerebral and periventricular white matter is a non specific finding. Different forms of Encephalopathy/ Encephalitis can result in similar finding.
- Prominence of the CSF spaces inappropriate for the patients age.
Maybe it is nothing. I have had tests in the past come back “normal”, get the report only to " read" otherwise, get a second opinion and have a serious condition. This happened to me with my Thyroid disease. Thoughts?
Thanks so much!!

Neither of these things is normal so I’m not sure what the neuro meant, perhaps not abnormal as far as what she was looking for goes?
What it’s saying is that:
-
The centre of your brain is paler than expected, but there’s no way of knowing what might have caused it, except to say that it can be found in encephalopathy / encephalitis.
-
“CSF spaces” are the ventricles: the lakes of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. These can become enlarged for various reasons. I’m pretty sure that one reason is encephalitis.
Have you had encephalitis at some stage? If you have not, then I would have thought that these findings were worthy of further investigation - something caused them after all. Maybe wait to see what happens with the spinal MRI results?

Hiya…gosh…as Rizzo says certainly not ok re findings…may be worth speaking to the encephalitis society…they have trained nurses on the helpline…who can advise and maybe put this in some context…? Have you had any symptoms of encephalitis in the past or asa child? good luck… em x
