More worrying proposals from our esteemed leaders

I couldn’t believe it when I saw this article - People stripped of benefits could be charged for challenging decision | Welfare | The Guardian

Given that most appeals against DWP decisions to decline benefits are successful, this plan feels like getting the battered wife of an alcoholic to pay for him to go to rehab. It’s a competely misguided way to fix the problems with benefits decisions.

Dan

Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrell next they’ll be charging sand tax on the sandbags to the poor folk in the flood damaged areas!

They probably devised this cunning plan on the playing fields of Eton, as it’s so transparently rotten. I suppose the Government could go after the bankers (who lets not forget caused the economic crash), or the serial tax evaders, but that’s obviously not as much fun as persecuting the poor and disadvantaged.

Apparently, some Councils in the Tory Heartlands are charging people per sandbag, so the idea has clearly been developed. I wonder when “money no object” Dave will get around to talking to the Dutch about how they cope with floods. With 50% of their land mass at, or below, sea level they may have something to offer.
