Mog

Hi.
I received a letter from my neurology doctor to say my blood test for MOG was negative, can anyone explain to me what it is and is it to do with MS. I am confused

I had no idea what it was either, until about an hour ago and got this explanation on facebook.

“Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody disease (MOGAD) is an autoimmune disorder that shares some symptoms with multiple sclerosis and may be misdiagnosed as MS. It is associated with the presence of antibodies directed against myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG).MOG is found in the myelin that insulates the nerves of the central nervous system, which consists of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. The antibody attack on MOG disrupts the transmission of nerve signals in the body and causes a variety of symptoms.”

Thank you so much for that, I had googled it, but I was still confused. I am not sure why I got a blood test for that, when neurology said I have MS. I guess they have to rule a lot of other things out, who knows, I hope your keeping well.

I think you are spot on and there are quite a few other conditions that mimic MS. Unfortunately, misdiagnosis does happen sometimes.

I am confused tho, as to why they would do a blood test for that condition when they said I have MS. And I don’t think it’s possible to have the 2 at the same time. Maybe I am wrong. X

My guess is that it’s just a timing issue and probably took longer to get the blood test results to you.
Either way, it’s neurology who decide and expect that’s given you more than enough to think about.
I hope you are getting the support you need.

I will know more next week when I go for a review. I take it you have had MS for a while. I don’t know about support, I just get on with life and try to stay positive.
