Losing autopilot.

Hi,

Sounds weird but has anyone found they’ve lost their autopilot?? By which I mean tasks that were automatic sometimes stop you in your tracks and need concentration? For me it’s mainly cognitive stuff, like not remembering routes so using signs instead of instinctively driving the way I know, having to consciously look at the back of the TV to find the “on” switch as opposed to just reaching to the right spot automatically, having to stop and think about how to use the tin opener etc! And slightly in terms of physical things, having to consciously think about locking my right knee when I walk so it doesn’t buckle (mostly when I’m walking slowly?!). Anyone experienced this?
Thanks!

Yes, I think this is the pattern for many people with MS, “autopilot” no longer works and you have to think about everything, it’s tiring.
Difficult to explain to anyone one hasn’t experienced it.
I find taking your time to do tasks helps, rushing things usually ends in disaster !

Yes, I have this. The majority of my issues are cognitive as that is where my lesions are. It’s very hard. Makes it harder that no one understands a disability that they can neither see nor imagine. Makes me very sad sometimes because I feel like I’ve lost me.
