Look North

Hi everyone, I live in Huddersfield West Yorkshire and tonight on Look North there was a report about a woman with MS, she’s had it for 20yrs, apparently couldn’t walk very and is now training to do a trek in the Sahara Desert, she’s been on a programme run through a hospital in Leeds, run by neuro Helen Ford, I haven’t checked it out yet, but I fully intend to, it all sounds so rosy, like we all could do this, I for one don’t feel like I could and sometimes I thing reports like this really don’t help our situation, straight away people will think we can all do this. Maybe have a look and see what you think.

I Had a quick look at the Look North news clip. Yet to find details of the support program - sounds interesting if slightly unbelievable or amazing?

Thanks for having a look Hank Dogs, Professor Helen Ford from Leeds is running it, apparently its a online course, to be honest Helen Ford has worked in the MS field for many years and I too find it unbelievable, I feel its aimed more at people with RRMS and not progressive, but I could be wrong.

For anyone interested in this, it comes under Ready for MS.

I recently met this lady, at an MS meet in Bailiffe Bridge.
She looked good, still able to walk, so fair play to her.

But I do understand what you mean Jean, about general folk thinking thinking we could all do it!

Hi Bouds, yes good for her and long may it last, but sadly we can’t all do it, I wish I could in a heart beat and I know you and everyone on here will think the same. Hope you’re doing ok, take care.

Well bully for her, but more often than not, the ‘not being able to walk’ turns out to mean that the person was pole-axed temporarily by a relpase and then the relapse resolved (luckily for the person) completely and bingo: scampering up mountains again. I wish it were always like that, don’t you?

Well alison100 I’m glad I’m not on my own in thinking this, I have to say my hubby was incensed, bloody annoyed if I’m honest, but anyway onwards and upwards.

It was my hubby told me it was going to be on, so nowhere to hide  :joy:

Hi Greenhouse. I’ve sort of looked around for further info on this and come to the general conclusion that the course is all about positive mental attitude and the like. As Alison said, it does look as if the person had a bad relapse and having recovered form that is benefiting from a course on mental resilience etc. if that’s the case then the item on Look North was a bit misleading - to put it mildly

Sign me up. If a bit of nice, bracing positive thinking would do the trick, I’m in!

Hi Hank Dogs and alison100, I totally agree with both of you, as far as the Look North interview went both my hubby and me felt the same, very misleading and very damaging, everyone will go “oh people with MS can still do so much” I bloody wish. Alison I’m with you, if this course could solve my problems I’d be pushing and shoving to the front of the queue  Take care both and thank you for being involved.
