I have multiple sclerosis. My right eye is affected and I can not see well. This question is about what should I eat to overcome MS.
I googled about beans and found controversy. I still don’t know wither it is useful or harmful for me?
Also, Which one of these food is useful and which one is harmful? coriander - latency - Bee’s honey - Tahini - fried potatoes (fingers) - lentils - chickpeas - soybean - boiled liver of chicken - fried fish - boiled chicken without skin.
Christmas is coming and my family will celebrate by serving different types of food that contains fats, butter, meat, gateau and so on. Should I refuse to eat any of these? Or should I eat small amounts of meat and one piece of gateau? How do I know when I reach the maximum amount?
moderation eat anything you want in moderation, thats what i think…life is hard enough with MS so a little bit of what you fancy wont do any harm at all.
I’m not sure how serious or genuine your post actually is.
Boiled chicken liver, fried fish, boiled chicken, small amounts of meat and one piece of gateau…???
How to celebrate Christmas with MS? The same as one would without it I suppose, barr the dancing. You can eat as much or as little of whatever you wish. You can over eat or starve yourself. You can have your fill of supplements, organic food, non organic food, meat free meals or Halal. The bottom line is, you are not going to “overcome” MS.
How do you now when you know when you reach the maximum amount? When you feel you’ve had enough to eat I think. Happy Christmas.
I cannot remember who said that, but I do think they were right. Like all the best rules, it can be relaxed from time to time of course - on Christmas Day, for instance.
The comforting ritual of a celebration meal shared with people you love comes with plenty of health benefits of its own. Please do not let these benefits pass you by because you aren’t paying proper attention to having a nice time with your friends and family.
Regardless of what is written, there are no foods that are specifically unhealthy if you have MS. The point being any food is unhealthy with or without it, if you eat processed, high salt and saturated fats lol.
All this about eating this or that, and all these diets, that will transform our lives with MS. To actually stick to them is so stressful and you end up hardly eating anything.
I think healthy, go mediterrean diet which is a little meat and fish mainly and loads of veggies and fruit, and olives…
Fried is acceptable as long as you dont use saturated fats to cook it in, and now and then wont harm. The only one non your list i steer clear of is SOYBEANS. If I eat anything with it, my stomach bloats.
Chicken livers i could eat everyday yum. Very high in Vit D.
Enjoy its xmas, then worry about it in the new year.
Generally everything in moderation. Around Christmas I will be eating and drinking everything in sight! Cease the day! Will suffer any consequences later .
Any one who tells you that “Diet X” is the only one that works is either in need of a psychiatrist or a visit from the fraud squad.
More veg - less meat, is a good idea, but remember that we are all different and so are our food tolerances. Gluten intolerance is a serious matter, and some people have to keep away from dairy products; but that could happen without MS.
No deep fat frying, steamed veg rather than boiled, not overdoing any particular food group - these are all healthy practices.
A balanced diet is good for you, but a little excess next weekend will do you less harm than sarvation.
This post seems to belong in the brain fog thread.
Eat food or you will die. Vegetation is better than animals. Bran fibre is helpful. Saturated fats not so helpful. No diet will make you ‘overcome MS’ although some diets seem to suit some people better than others. And some people will swear that a particular diet makes their MS symptoms better, personally I think this is unlikely, but again some diets suit some people. And some people really don’t like food much, treating it as fuel. This probably helps people stick to diets. But this is true for people without MS as well.
Some people (many) use Christmas as a kind of ‘get out of jail free’, aka ‘food eaten at Christmas doesn’t make you put weight on’, aka ‘I’ll diet in January’! Others accept that they’ll probably eat more bad for you food at Xmas, and will possibly go on a sensible diet afterwards. But truly, the list of foods in the original post sounds a bit odd, to say the least.
And as for when should I stop eating? The answer to that is either when you are full, or when you explode, depending on your personal relationship to food.
I left the Overcoming MS group on facebook as I just found it too annoying! There is no cure, just things that can help different symptoms and if you have any type of MS it makes sense that you take some care of yourself. I gave up smoking as it seemed common sense to give myself the best chance I could but that aside, no major changes other than giving up my chosen exercise.
I’m still tinkering with ‘mimic fasting’ because true fasting DOES have proven benefits - but given I have mobility problems and take tablets daily, there’s no way I could actually fast properly. If nothing else it has helped me control my weight but I have found some other changes and I will blog about that - but it’s still not a cure.
I think a lot of this stuff is preached about by people that have RRMS which can be quite tame (wrong word I know but can’t think of the right one!) for some people and they’re lucky - it could so easily be that relapses are completely unrelated to making mega dietary changes - RRMS is just like that for some people.
