I imagine that this is what being retired must be like - lots of slow days full of nothing, bouncing from week to week towards the next planned thing as the clock ticks by. Until recently, I’ve always had a busy, physical job and, always been on the go ( the blokes in this family have always been quite workaholic). Now, I get bored and twitchy easily. I can only go out for short walks around a small local area because I get disoriented and lost easily if I go too far.
I like to use my resistance bands to keep in shape without pushing too hard.
I get the washing and tidying done around here but that soon runs out.
I don’t shoot anymore because of my eyes and hand tremors.
I don’t enjoy puzzles but, I do still read until my eyes get tired.
I like to cook. I made some potato, onion and chilli cakes with Garam masala, tomato puree and a squeeze of lemon yesterday.(My daughter bought me some Japanese chef knives and a pack of plasters because of my hand tremors last father’s day - t was a thoughtful gift and her sense of humour all over ) I’m off into town with the missus and our daughter today. We found a brilliant Chinese mini market a couple of weeks ago. I’m hoping for some duck and pancakes today. It’ll be a good day
The plasterer is due in a couple of weeks to skim a room upstairs and the porch so, that’ll give me some decorating to do.
I’ve got another local MS group meeting to go to in a week or 2 so, that’ll be nice
Have a good day and, try to enjoy yourselves all x
My trouble is that I haven’t really changed much in my 47 years - if I’m allowed to become bored. Creative ways to find entertainment can sometimes become mischief
Hi @jthatcher interesting question. My daily routine has become one in which after waking, dressing etc, I will have several cups of tea , check emails and this forum where I might make a few comments, then the BBC news website to check weather forecast for the next few weeks and to scroll through the news and silently curse a few politicians. Then have something to eat , tidy up and suddenly it’s afternoon! Might do some housework etc, do some exercise and stretching and in the summer would sit outside for a while and so it goes on. Exciting??? Outside of the routine - my wife and I are drawing up powers of attorney and updating wills, we have just bought a new car to replace an aging one that was beginning to cost a bit in repairs, making plans for trips / holidays next year, I’m looking at light weight folding mobility scooters to replace one which I’m beginning to find a bit heavy. Life goes on but at a much slower pace and everything takes at least twice as long!
@Hank_Dogs Small world mate. Your morning starts very similar to mine
Coffee and pills, then a couple of teas. Get washed and dressed. A read on here and another forum that I frequent, check the weather and emails.. then, crack on with whatever needs doing. And, you’re spot on - it is a slower pace now so that I don’t forget or bump into things.
… The rockn’ roll life eh - Keith Richards has got nothing on us
My wee girl (she’s 32 ) bought me a train set for Christmas last year, and i have been building a model railway in my spare time. I love it.
Other than that we down sized our house and moved to a bungalow on the outskirts of a town, which needed a bit of work so that keeps busy when i’m able.
Though the boss doesn’t think i’m going fast enough .
