Have been diagnosed with a cataract in one eye.I use a wheelchair

I have a cataract that has to be removed.as I use a wheelchair the consultant has said that I can’t be tested because I can’t get close enough to the tester.any ideas

Hi I had two cataracts removed last January/February. I had the operations under local anaesthetic and I am pleased that I went ahead with surgery.

I am not yet permanently in a wheelchair and only use if covering any distance. I walk with a rollator and FES for short distances. Is it not possible for you to transfer from wheelchair to seat so that you can sit in front of the equipment? They will need to use this to work out what strength your replacement lens needs to be and to check eye/optic nerve health.

I have regular eye checks for another condition and all the seats and equipment are mobile. The only problem I have is holding the necessary position on the chair as I have poor core control and tend to slump a little.

Hope you find an answer to your dilemma.

Hi, isnt it annoying how some places dont cater for us wheelchair users?
I use The Home Optician because the High street opticians dont cater for me.

I also have real problems when going for a mammogram…just cant get close enough to the equipment.

It’s time something was done about these issues, as there are lots of us who need these services that non disabled people use.
