Hi everyone. I have inflammation on the nerves within the disc’s in my spine. I have had a letter today referring me to have a nerve block procedure done. I am not good with needles, so the idea freaks me out a bit. Does it hurt whilst they are doing it? And what about afterwards? Hope someone can help. Linda
Hi Linda
I’ve had something done to the Trigeminal Nerve in my face but I have no idea if it’s a similar procedure.
How it worked for me is they gave a general anesthetic and inserted the needle into my cheek. They then wake you up to check that the needle is in the right place and put you back to sleep before doing whatever it is that they do.
I have no memory whatsoever of being woken up and can only assume that I was able to give the right information. There was some discomfort afterwards but it was sorted with paracetamol so it wasn’t bad. Although it sounds gross having a needle in your cheek I never saw it or felt it.

Hello Linda,
I haven’t had the procedure done myself but my husband has trouble with his back and every six months or so he has injections into his back, which told by the doc’ may or may not work. Up until now it has worked. The doc’ informed him that he could have the nerve block procedure, so I strongly advise you to discuss it thoroughly with the doc’ before having it done.Hope this is of some help to you.
