Hi what does everyone use to get around in their home? I use a crutch and lean on furniture and door frames but I am getting pain in my wrist and shoulder using the crutch I have foot drop can’t walk with a Rollator or Zimmer I only live in a small bungalow so can’t get around inside in my mobility scooter .

Hi, I had a physio assessment last week which addressed just these problems. I use furniture too but a walking stick if I am particularly struggling indoors. But what I wanted to tell you was she has given me a gadget that makes my foot drop almost non existent. It’s called LNK-UP and fits round my ankle and attaches to hooks in my trainers. That’s not a very good description but it’s just been life changing for me. I’ve been falling more than usual and breaking bones when I do but this has made me feel a lot safer on my feet.

This becoming relevant for me too. There are too many strategically placed perching chairs that the rest of the family are starting to complain! I’m the king of the swingers as I clamber from one piece of furniture to a wall or door frame. Also have a few grab handles. Sounds like your upper body has normal mobility too.
Going rate for 2nd hand perching stools / chairs on FB marketplace can be just £10-25.
I’m contemplating a small, narrow self-propelled wheelchair as the next step for indoors. I already have a portfolio of sticks, frame & rollator plus electric chair for going out.
Have you checked out Vela chairs, as an indoor option? Rather on the expensive side, but they can be purpose built using components that suit your needs and might be worth a look.

That would be perfect for my use around the house. Have requested a price (it’s ominous that they don’t publish a price list…). Much more suitable than a manual wheelchair. I use an Aeron office chair at home desk - incredibly supportive and adjustable but it has ordinary office castors and lacks the lift function. The Vela would be a logical next step, price permitting.
