First nerology appointment tomorrow

Not sure what to expect but been having symptoms for a while , main symptom for me is walking as my right leg tenses up aswell as shoulder trap muscle on same side same time . Had twitches in the arm but are now all over the body . Constant back and hip pain , I was in to running but had to stop and tried to carry on with the gym but I’ve been having episodes where if I get to hot left eye goes blurry and recently if the body feels tired and still push through at the gym at some point in that day I end up having which I’m assuming is a panick attack . I’ve never suffered with them untill the last couple of weeks , is it possible for them to be bought on but a tired body . Thanks Lee

Hi Lee,

I hope your appointment with the neurologist goes well tomorrow.

A friend of mine who is an MS specialist neurologist in another part of the country told me that it would be helpful to list possible symptoms with the rough dates they started and stopped, and to take that list to the neurologist. It definitely helped in my diagnosis. Perhaps something that might help you too?

There’s lots of info on possible symptoms on the MS Society website - things I hadn’t even thought of and realised that they might apply to me.

Keep us posted is the how you get on

Hi Lee. Good luck with your appointment tomorrow mate. That’s good advice from Alison - Do make notes while you can still remember those things. It’s kind of the doctors job to get this info out of you but, any help you can give along the way will always be good.

Definitely mention the bit about how you feel when you push yourself when tired - pushing through my fatigue and stubbornly forcing myself on has been a trigger for my focal aware seizures. They’re quite small compared to my first seizure but, they’re certainly not pleasant and, a bit like what I imagine a panick attack to feel like with the rising feeling from stomach to chest, visual disturbances and hot sweaty palms.

Good luck with your appointment mate and, do let us know how you get on.

….. be careful with that tiredness when it kicks in.

All the best.

Jon.

Thank you for both of your reply’s the neurologist isn’t convinced it’s ms because even tho I have symptoms I don’t have the symptom where you tilt your neck forward and go get the instant zap down your spine . She’s gunna send me for a mri tho to find out either way . Does everyone have the zap down the spine ? Thanks

It may be that not everyone gets that. I have had it but, it just seemed to come from no where a couple of years ago. Putting my chin to my chest doesn’t provoke it so, it’s never happened under any examinations. My consultant originally diagnosed me with clinically Isolated syndrome, now Tumefactive demyelination. My neck is uncomfortable quite often. He seems pretty sure that he’ll be diagnosing me with some kind of MS eventually but, at the moment I’m still being tested and monitored while he looks for the proof that he’s after.

Your next MRI will give them more info on your case one way or another.

At the moment I’m happy that they can’t put that label on me yet. Being a fatal optimist - to me there’s nothing different yet so, I can forget it and crack on as normal

Take care mate.

Jon.

It’s called “Lhermitte’s sign” @quinn_123 I don’t know how many people have it but, I am definitely one of those who do have it. It’s not continuous in my case. It comes and goes. Can go many months without it happening.

Hope your neurologist appointment went ok for you today.

Wishing you all the best.. not just now but, for the future too, whatever it holds for you.

More of a gentle whoosh than a zap, but yes, it’s been there from the start for me (25 years ago). It was more noticeable in the early days when my ms was very active and poorly controlled, but whenever I bend my neck forward it’s there.
