Feel like I'm going mad!

Hi all,

I’m Tracy, 54, been referred to Neurology with Symptoms of MS, due to have an MRI spine and head at the end of the month, although I’ve not been seen in person yet. anyone else had this ?

A few weeks a had an episode, I felt like I was wading through water just to walk, almost like I hand invisible weights pushing me down, lower back and tummy pain, almost like I had a water infection. Felt totally exhausted, felt as though I had a wooden leg. When I got in to bed and felt worse, aching feet, electric shocks in my hips. down the side of my legs, up my head and neck and down my arm shoulder towards my hands.

This lasted over a week, woke up one morning and it was as if someone had turned a switch off. I felt light and free, awake, no pain. This is what prompted me to go to the GP.

Looking back I have had bouts like this for at least 8-10 years.

I feel like I am going mad, I also get woken from my sleep feeling like the bed is vibrating, must my husband just gets frustrated when I wake him to ask if he can feel it.

I have many other symptoms too… memory issues and severe brain fog, but this down to menopause.

My bloods have all come back normal.

Can anyone relate to this ?

Thanks for reading

Tracy :upside_down_face:

Hi welcome to the group I find it useful to be made  so you will get on fine. Even after 20 years of m.s I’m no expert, new things happening all the time. It’s hard for us all but it’s good to know you are not alone. I of us will identify with your situation . So keep asking and you can ring the helpline. I find having a good sense of humour and not taking things too serious gets me through the day. I make sure I sleep well and keep my stress levels low. You will find your own way just dont fight it. Acceptance plays a big part. Not every problem has an answer, you need to make your own way through.

Hi @tg08catt to answer your question no I can’t say that in my 19 years since diagnosis I have ever experienced the electric shocks, vibration or pain symptoms. I can sometimes experience brain fog but that tends to be later in the day or e.g in this hot weather .

Good luck with the MRI scan and on the assumption that you might get an appointment with a neurologist at some point, keep a record of when and for how long your various symptoms develop.

All the best

It’s hard looking for answers when we are all so different, square boxes & round holes. Don’t try to hard, everything we do is a struggle. The best way for me deep breath’s & start again. We dont give in, we just take time to work out how will this work for me. Look after no 1, that is you by the way. We are all guilty of putting our selves first, that is your first lesson  Good luck no rush,no prize, just life & you are in charge, dont hide away shout out be heard be proud you are not mad, although I think a little mad is good nothing wrong with me

Keeping a symptom diary before the MRI can make it easier to explain everything to your neurologist. While waiting, I found BetterMe’s article on corporate wellbeing programs really useful because it covers practical stress management, guided breathing, mindfulness, and daily wellness habits that can make exhausting days feel more manageable.
