Fears after Follow-up Appointment

Sorry for the wall of text but I’d greatly appreciate your input:
Hello again, I finally got a follow-up from the neurologist’s office and they looked at my bloodwork from 1 month ago.
It appears my Vitamin B12 was at 270, and that’s apparently considered low. I’ve been having the following symptoms:

  1. Numb patch near right glute (has been around for a few months w/o shrinking or expanding…just constant size…)

  2. Numb patch on left thigh (been around for 7ish months, again not shrinking or expanding…just constant size…)

  3. Additional tingling and numbness scattered through either leg, with occasional stinging nerve pain in right glute and thigh, as well as left ankle, left calf, etc.

  4. Brain fog like an MF: Forgetting names, forgetting the topic I’m discussing, etc.

Physical Exam Results:

  1. Normoreflexia in all reflexes (supposedly; same as appt 1 month ago)
  2. Normal strength test supposedly (same as my appointment 1 month ago)
  3. No spasticity based on some leg stretches that the nurse did

New Stuff I have noticed (but might be hypersensitive on my side):

  1. occasionally have to push a little harder to pee but still get a steady stream (sometimes forceful); Urinate about 4-5 times/day
  2. Embarassing…but some issue climaxing
  3. I tried to do a left-legged squat and nearly collapsed (felt a muscle failing) despite being able to do it 1 month ago…and left leg overall feels a bit “jumpy” (I flex my thigh and relax but it seems to bunch up agian)…
  4. Also, for some reason my “morning wood” disappeared suddenly…

Most importantly…I feel whenever the doc (or nurse) mentions possible symptoms when I express concerns about MS, it’s like those symptoms pop up shortly after the appointment. Am I being hypersensitive?

Also: Is it possible that I have hyperreflexia and that it was missed in the clinical exam b/c the hammer didn’t hit exactly on the tendon?

Anyone?

Hi Neurodude

  1. Start a symptom diary, plain notebook will do. Note down what, when, how long a symptom happens. Check back over the past 7 - 14 days to see if a symptom has a) gone away b) improved c) got worse d) is the same and still there. This is very useful to show to the Neuro at the next appointment.

B. Crack on with getting the B12 levels back up to normal - keep track of the symptoms in your diary whilst levels are getting back to and become sustained normal level.

Its quite easy to start looking out particularly for symptoms after an appointment - I think we just become more aware and observant perhaps.

Sort out the B12 first and see which symptoms improve/resolve over the next month or so. It is possible that some won’t improve, but you have to give the B12 a good run in order to rule out anything that is definitely B12 related. You can then tackle what remains ongoing.
