eyes "/

hi all can any1 advise me as to the poss connection between ON. and poss ICP ( inter cranial pressure) I’ve just been to the eye clinic after my optician thought shed seen optic swelling again :frowning: but the dr I saw says he can’t be to certain and wanted to refere me to neuro I told him I’m going in jan and he says he’s going to ask them to make sure I have an MRI n for them to def check for signs of lesions when I initially had this problem years ago the neuro just thought it was down to ICP and I had a LP done but the results came back slightly under normal range and he refused to even entertain the poss of MS cus he said I was to young, I was 33 at the time "/ the dr I saw today looked very shocked when he asked if I had MS n I said no exploding the above and if I had in fact had ON before then he was pretty certain I should have had a positive dx all those years ago so now I’m no further along lol n I’ve got a banging head from all the eye drops n flipping bright shinning lights pfft!! lol I’m off back to bed I think lol Lou

I don’t believe that ICP can cause ON, but I could be wrong. I know it can cause swelling of the optic disc, but how easy it is to tell the difference between that and ON, I don’t know.

ON typically affects one eye whereas ICP typically affects both eyes.

I don’t know who you saw when you were 33, but he was talking rubbish! 33 is an absolutely typical age of diagnosis. (And there was a 2 year old diagnosed with MS just last year!)

Not sure what they meant by “slightly under normal” re the LP results. Oligoclonal bands are either there or not; 2 or more in the CSF but not in the serum is a positive result.

I hope the headache improves soon.

Hi Karen

thanks for ur reply

After geting home and getting to thinking back about the oringnal problems that presented 5yrs ago the more annoyed i am at the neuro i saw :frowning:

he was very dismissive at the time and just basically said that this is pretty much all down to being over weight and that i was to go away n try n loose some, that should solve the problems i was having :frowning:

i went onto loose 4.5st but that didnt help with the ‘waves’ i was getting and still getting upto 3/4 times a year

The mri scan i had at the time was to see if the blood vessels in the brain would be able to sustain me under going a LP which i had ( awful experience i am not willing to repeat!!) i did ask about MS at the time of the results, this is when he basically turned to me and said No most defeniatley not that as your are far to young and i believe the pins and needles are just from Carpel Tunnel

Silly annoying lil man lol

but i left in tears that day and later got a leeter from him saying he was discharging me as he could see no further need to see me

Now back to present day. . . . . I am back on his list but down to see his registrar (who i’ve been told is very nice and she actually listens but im not holding my breath on that 1 lol )

Because the Opthamologist didnt have my hospital notes for todays appointment it was impossable for him to see what was happening those years ago but he couldnt believe it when he said ‘so u have MS then’?? my answer was er no??? i have’nt been dx’d . . . . . his mouth open shaking his head in sheer astonishment lol classic wish i’d have taken a pic lol

but he was’nt happy that if i had indeed had ON last time this should have been seriously considered by the neuro

Rite the LP was ‘within normal range’ for the ICP which is ment to be between 7-15 but mine was only 5 at the time and he was surprised given that i’m over weight so far as i no Bands were not even taken into the testing

So hey ho here i m still no further along this time but hopefully after going to see the neuro she mite be able to start helping me put the pieces together of this very frustrating puzzle that is my life

Lou  xx
