Well following on from my WTF IS HAPPENINING thread, I have an update.
Thursday morning I woke to discover my right shoulder locked, colour fading from my right eye, right arm numb with electric shock style pins and needles and left leg heavy with prickling.
So I did what any normal adult would do.
I rang my mum.
She came and picked me up and we went to A&E.
Long story short, following a full spectrum of blood tests, CT scan, MRI scan, multiple reflex-balance and pinprick sensitivity tests, and an overnight stay. (The highlight of which has to be being moved to a ward with lots of elderly old dears, and waking in the morning to hear one asking a very frazzled nurse “When is the custard coming?”)
There’s a strong possibility its MS. It’s what the doctors think, the neurologist thinks. Test have ruled out all the more common things…
So I am booked for a more indepth MRI scan (this time Head and full spine instead of head and neck this time - which I believe was primarily to rule out any spectacular inflammation of the nerve behind my eye), and for a ‘Visual Evoked Potential’ something or other (something to do with testing electrodes in my nerves or something), which will either fully confirm MS, or Rule it out completely (Which the doctors told me, will make me something of a mystery)
So yep. Relieved, depressed, happy its being looked into and investigated, happy i’m not a hypochondriac, devastated i’m not a hypochondriac, and just generally. Right. Now-what…
LOL about phoning your mum though - I agree 100%: it’s what any sensible adult would do
I hope they don’t drag your stay out too long and that the tests get you some answers very soon. The VEPs are nothing to worry about: they stick some electrodes on your head and make you watch boring black and white patterns on a monitor. The worst thing about it is that you get gloop in your hair, but I have a feeling that the other residents of your ward won’t notice
Hello Fruitcake, before I say what I intend to say, why Fruitcake? Anyway, sorry you were in hospital but pleased to hear you are now at home and tests all booked. Once done the answer will be revealed and you can completely rule out being a hypochondriac, Do keep us updated. Get plenty of rest and take care.
Hey Janet. Fruitcake… well. Fruitcake is a word a selection of my friends and I use to affectionatly describe someone who’s either being silly, or just - not quite all together, or simply getting themselves in a tizzy.
