Difficulty with catheterising post Botox

Periodically I find that I just cannot get the catheter to insert fully to do its job. It seems to hit an obstruction and just bends this way and that, no matter how much I rotate or push, rather than insert any further. I know this is not an obstruction caused by the prostate because it is before that point. It has happened twice in the last 24 hours, once just before I wanted to get off to sleep, with the result that I could not sleep for some hours because of a feeling of urgency I could not relieve until I finally succeeded on a further attempt. When the obstruction mysteriously gave way I thought I could sense something give way through the movement of the catheter. Anybody else get this or know what is happening or how to avoid it?

Hi

I know it’s completely different for chaps, so I’ve got no particularly useful to offer. However, I would suggest that you phone a continence nurse, if you have access to one. If not, try your catheter delivery company, they all have continence nurses who are really helpful. It’s probably quicker to phone them for advice than an NHS variety nurse!

Thanks Ssssue I get mine on prescription from a local Boots chemist but the name is Speedicath so I’ll see if I can contact them.

Hi

The makers of Speedicath are Coloplast. They have their own nurses who are able to advise. Have a look on their website, try Get in touch with your local Coloplast office - Coloplast UK

Best of luck. It’s horrible when you have problems weeing.
