Confused about results

Doc says MRI indicates I’m almost certain to be diagnosed with MS. I have 1 lesion on my brain. My spinal tap was high for RBC but they only found 1 band. Glucose and protein were normal.

The results from spinal cord says:

“absent. NOTE- ONE identical (mirror image) gamma restriction band is observed in the patient’s CSF and serum sample. This finding is of uncertain clinical significance. It is recommended that testing be repeated if clinically indicated.”

So I’m waiting to hear from the doc what this means…any thoughts?

It means it’s inconclusive! I know that’s not helpful but MS is notoriously difficult to diagnose. I was misdiagnosed for at least 8 years, time during which I might potentially have been able to receive the correct treatment.

Neurologist will first look to symptoms. If MS is a possibility, they may commission an MRI (or two) and maybe an LP. It may still be inconclusive, hence the “if clinically indicated” comment. MS is usually but not always a slow-burner, so they’ll be waiting to see what happens next. If they were to jump in with a guessed-at diagnosis, the wrong meds could do more harm than good.

What did neurologist have to say about your symptoms?

Thanks for responding. I just have debilitating headaches at this point, no other neurological symptoms. I also feel like my words get all jumbled- like I can never find the right words, or quick enough. It’s frustrating and my family has noticed this.
The doctor told me before the LP results came back that he feels pretty confident that it’s MS, to the point where he’s like…assume you have it. But idk now.

But now the results are in and they just called me saying results are normal, but does not mean I don’t have a demyelinating disease.

He’s doing a doing a MRI next. So maybe it’s not MS? Thoughts?
