Hi I have had MS for nearly 30 years now but most recently every time I laugh out loud I collapse meaning I lose total control of all my muscles my head drops onto my chest. My arms and legs are useless but only for a few seconds maybe six or seven seconds which is okay if I am laying down or sitting down but when standing it is becoming quite frightening as I’ve now hit my head and it won’t be long before I break something. Does anybody else have this problem? And how do they treat it? As when I spoke to my neurologist? He just wanted to give me something to sedate me thank you Clyde
Hi Clyde. I hadn’t heard of cataplexy but have looked it up. Quite an alarming thing to have! In reading about it I noticed that selective serotonin inhibitors are sometimes used to help with narcolepsy - a different but sort of related condition. Might be worth talking with your GP about that?
