Bowels....aagh

Hi all, I hope you are well.

Bowels have always been a nightmare since I was diagnosed. I go every 1 or 2 weeks, with no pain or issues. When I get the feeling that something is happening I cannot go to the toilet, commode as I am bedbound. Then what happens is I get leakage whatever the time of day. This week I started with feelings in the evening and thus went off throughout the night resulting in me waking up in a mess. Mum was cleaning me up when I had a proper bowel movement.

Why do I leak and make a mess before opening my bowels properly? It is always the same runny bowels until I open them correctly.
Does anyone else suffer like this? Any advice or suggestions to help would be great.

Hello

Yes I’ve had some awful experiences with losing control usually after a period of struggling to go.

It has also happened in my sleep.

Ive been prescribed Senna for constipation and Peristeen anal irrigation to empty my bowel.

It’s been a life changer for me and means I can live my life without constant fear of accidents.

I would contact your MS nurse and explain what’s happening . They should refer you to a Bowel/Bladder nurse for an assessment and they will show you how to use the irrigation system.

They are always there at the end of the phone if you are having any problems or need any help.

I hope you get the help you need.

Take care

Clare
