Bowel irrigation

Yes I know! So embarrassing and utterly miserable! I have recently got the Navina smart irrigation system and was so excited about the life changing gift this could bring. Total control over when you empty and knowing when you next need to irrigate. No embarrassing accidents, travel a real option, etc etc. My machine came a bit later than expected before my holiday to the Dom Rep so I haven’t had much practice with it but was so excited that I could get excited about a long flight and a holiday. BUT I’ve done the set up, and it’s super brilliant but even with the balloon in the catheter at 3, I can’t seem to get a good seal and the water is just coming out. I know this is graffic and gross but any advice please? Too short notice to get someone to demonstrate. I’ve put it in far enough, inflated and done the little tug but no joy!! Going away in 2 days and already getting super anxious about going!

Hi Leander.

It’s not gross at all. What better place than this to ask? A few folks here have continence issues of varying degrees I’m sure that I’ve seen. Similar discussions on here before.

I’ve never had to use such a system but, would something like Senokot a few hours before you use it help to move things along?

As for the long flight. Would it help to be cautious with what food and drink you have for a couple of days before?

Can you take an extra light bag on as hand luggage with a change of clothes, fresh underwear, wipes, a spray fragrance that you like and a plastic bag for any soiled garments?

I hope you have a good holiday and a trouble free flight :crossed_fingers:

Take care mate :slightly_smiling_face:

Jon.

hello leander. it’s not exactly what you’re asking, but I might be able to help here

not your q exactly, as I say, but I have struggled with incontinence for about a year, and it was gradually getting much worse up until april of this year. in the months since, I changed my diet to largely gluten free (strictly three meals a day) and was recommended by my GP to an incontinence nurse, who gave me pelvic floor exercises which I do after meals. they are essentially sitting and squeezing the pelvic floor muscles a few times, and I’ve had one incident in three months. it was almost every day, before then. it’s not your issue, but it does help with general day-to-day living, and with it, anxiety has reduced too…

happy to private message you, if you think that could help. good luck to you - it will work out
