I’m left handed (c. 10% of population) and blood group AB+ (c. 4% of the population)
what about you? Is a particular blood group more disposed to ms symptoms or a particular “handedness”?
just for fun - I’m curious

AB positive, not left handed, not sure if bloods have much to do with MS, but mutant genes do, can’t remember the exact ins & outs, long time since uni & Genetics I’m afraid! Tracey
I did stats as part of my degree so I’m always interested in “how many” heehee
Right-handed, o-neg
LL x
Right-handed, O -ve
Regarding genetics, some years ago I read that MS is not necessarily inherited. There’s a group of genes that give a tendency to auto-immune conditions. If you have these genes then you could develop MS, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus or something else. You might be lucky and not get anything at all. My mother has benign MS, my father had rheumatoid arthritis, so that’s two sets of dodgy genes. I have RRMS but my sister seems to have avoided auto-immune problems. Luck of the draw, I suppose.
Left handed and O Neg
I’m AB negative, so no I don’t think blood group is associated, there are so many factors involves in auto-immune with more and more groups of scientists insisting it’s related to diet, environment, genetics, hormones, leaky gut, etc etc.
My sister also has MS so poss link to genetics maybe, 3 brothers are fine though!
Are you ready?!
Grandmother- R Arthritis
Dad- Parkinsons
Uncles daughter- Downs syndrome, hole in the heart
Niece- no thyroid
Nephew- Nystagamus
1st Cousin- Scleroderma
1st Cousins son- Cerebal Palsy
1st Cousins son- Asperges, Autisium
1st Cousins daughters son- hole in the heart
Me- R Arthritis, Scleroderma, MS
My Grandson- Autisum
All on my Dads side, we seriously have a mutant gene that has mutated into all these different illnesses. Quite a family trait unfortunately.
mum’s sister - ms
dad’s sister - RA
my sister - skin disease which is auto immune (can’t remember name) psoriasis
me - ms
Statistically interesting so far (albeit tiny sample) that we’ve only got O and AB especially as AB is such a small percentage of the general population
im right handed but no idea of my blood group, maybe its something i should find out about
Right handed, A+
Right handed and rhesus negative.
Mags xx
Right handed and B+
So in other words, according to the self selecting small group of respondents, blood group has absolutely nothing to do with MS. And neither does left or right handedness.
Just as suspected.
Sue
Agreed, as I said, I’m nosey and it’s just for fun
Thank you, now all primary groups covered from A, B, AB and O
Hi, Im B Positive…right handed…
Crumbs - not a clue, I’m afraid. Pre-MS, I could have looked at my blood donation card, but that went by the board after dx, of course. Are blood donation cards still those nice folding things that look like a miniature version of an old-style passport, with that vaguely woven texture on the outside? I cannot even remember what colour they were - blue? I do not suppose that anyone on here knows, given that none of us has one any more - whatever they look like now!
