Its busy with the children off for the summer. Yesterday we went blackberry picking my Carer brought her little girl it was such good fun. We have a park at the back of us its really quite old fashioned with not many things on it but it is surrounded by blackberry bushes its funny how the simple things can bring so much pleasure even Frazer enjoyed himself, and we made two blackberry and apple crumbles , one for me and one for my Carer
Such fun - I love blackberrying and other foraging! Harvest time/early Autumn is my favourite time of year. Our local country park is very good for blackberries and sloes in particular. s.
I have some lovely sloe gin from 2 years ago maturing nicely in the cupboard. Should be perfect for Christma
Does Frazer like blackberries? My 2 love them when they are out on a walk.
There’s a woodland trust place a couple of miles from me. In the days when I could walk, I had all of my brother’s four children stay with me for a week and on the penultimate day we went there to pick blackberries. I also picked the apples from the tree next door which was overhanging in my garden and made apple and blackberry crumble. They couldn’t quite believe that their rather odd, sometimes drunken uncle who specialised in leading their father astray could actually produce something so tasty.
Thanks Boblatina, I think Frazer would probably love blackberries he loves Apple’s, bananans and strawberries. We have to be careful that he doesn’t eat too much because a lot of his food is given as treats for doing tasks like picking up dropped items. We use the gravy bones or sometimes small pieces of fruit. I’ll try him with blackberries next time. Michelle and Frazer xx
That’s a lovely memory Steve, you sound like a fun uncle did you ever make blackberry wine ? I bet you could lead your brother astray with BlackBerry wine. Michelle x
I had a wine making phase in the eighties. I did a mean gooseberry wine. I once made a mango wine and my dad insisted on having the fermented mangoes in a bowl with evaporated milk. But the blackberry wine has got me thinking. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
