Anyone tried psilocybin for alternative treatment for MS?

I realise it’s note a direct treatment but I’ve read encouraging reports and testimonies about the journey.

Obviously not here in the UK but I’m looking at the Netherlands.

Needs a lot of thought. Experiences, thoughts welcome.

Hi @Boudicca . No I haven’t and I hadn’t heard of it until your post. I see it is being explored as something that might suppress neuro inflammation. Interesting. The nearest I get to that is mindfulness/meditation which help suppress general inflammation.

Many many moons ago I did try ‘magic mushrooms’ a few times . Didn’t do much for me

Thank you, I think it is under the class of magic mushrooms. I’ve never had them recreationally myself. I will come back here and report if I go though with it.

Hi and late reply, yes Psilocybe ( from which comes Psilocybin). Many many many moons ago I was a bit of a mycologist studying ‘moulds’ - not mushrooms- but picked up a lot about toadstools/mushrooms

Hi Boudicca if it is like magic mushrooms, I’d give it a big swerve unless it’s specifically recommended by the neurologist that’s treating you. I tried them in the 90s and the effect was quite pronounced and took quite a while to wear off. Because of my brain lesions and probably the demyelination aswell, alcohol can have quite an unpleasant effect on me so, I would be very reluctant to try mushrooms or their effective derivatives.

I remember reading something a long time ago about them being used in tests for some mental illnesses.

It’s great that they’re still looking at various medications for MS but, I’d be wary of that one.

Green tea, vitamin D and Omega3 has done me no harm over recent years :person_shrugging::+1:

Thank you, I appreciate all responses as I’m in the research stage. I’m looking at a ceremony abroad with a specialist who will guid things. More research needed…

Good morning Boudicca. Is that the Beckley retreat thing that I was just reading about?

Jon.

Ah, haven’t heard of that. I think you’re in the States?

I’m talking to a woman in the Netherlands (not legal here in the UK) as I know someone who’s been twice and found the experience very beneficial.

I’m still going to take a look at the place you mention as there’s some interesting topics on there. Is that where you’ve been?

Hi Boudicca.

No, I’m in Swindon, Wiltshire.

I’ve never been to a retreat. To be honest, when I read up on that one that I asked about earlier - it starts all sorts of alarm bells for me

Obviously grown people are free to make their own choices but, I think that is something to be very catious of.

Interesting. Yes, I can’t say it would be my first choice (principally because of its location) but there are other elements I wouldn’t be comfortable with.

If I feel my own journey to the Netherlands brings any positive change, I’d be happy to forward you details if you like. Always tricky as healing is such a personal thing dependent on an individual’s body and genetic make up and history.

Ah, Swindon! Very nice part of the country.

I share your concern about the possible ill-effects of charging my tattered wiring with anything too exotic. Reckon I’ll stick with natalizumab and decent Claret.
