Hello, thank you for taking the time to read this post. We are a young family who are feeling they’re being ignored by the GP. My partner has been suffering from weakness in one of his legs, which unfortunately means he cannot leave the house because he can’t walk far or if he manages to leave the house, he can fall over or I have to hold him up (whilst pushing a pram). We can’t do the “normal” things a family (i hate the word normal but I mean things like walk to the corner shop or walk around a local park) would do because the weakness is so bad. We’ve been going to the GP over 6 years now, he’s had blood tests, an MRI on his spine and x-rays. The weakness first appeared as him looking like he was drunk when walking but over the years it has progressed to him just about being able to walk to the car. I feel like I have to advocate for him because it is really bringing him down that the GP/hospital isn’t taking his symptoms seriously. He had a family member who sadly passed away from MS and the orthopaedic consultant who we saw (as GP thought it might be an orthopaedic issue) did mention this could be the start of MS.
We are due to see the GP again as the orthopaedic consultant has discharged us and I am hoping to get the ball rolling again as the issue isn’t going away. Do others have similar experiences or can suggest what I can do next to support him? Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
