Advice anyone

Hey
Has anyone been struggling with ridiculous weight gain ?
I was an active person due to job and all of a sudden I can’t see my feet due to stomach in the way .
Put on 3 stone in 8 months and body resembles a punched lasagne now.
I don’t know how to burn it off being house bound more often than not.

Hi Colin,

My gut has got huge! Despite all that I haven’t weighed this little for over 20 years. I mentioned it to my consultant A while back, and she said that it’s not actually going to be weight gain that caused my big belly, because I’m in a wheelchair now all the time my muscles don’t get any use and so all the muscles in my chest and abdomen have basically slumped down and so even though I could do with losing a bit of weight my body shape has changed completely. My thighs have also got much much skinnier, I think that’s quite a bit of weight loss as well. I’ve started just having a sandwich in the evening now, and having a big lunch to keep me going. I’m probably eating more than I need to, but I can’t really be bothered to work out what my calorific intake should be and then look at what I’m eating. It’s definitely odd not being able to exercise to burn up the calories.

Thank you for reply
I think now you mention it that it is more a case of everything has slumped south.
I had a decent build and it’s like the cheese has slid off my cracker.
I’ve to get more bloods done tomorrow so will ask about this.
It is literally like my chest and stomach has became one then fallen down.
I am not in a wheelchair but I don’t really leave house often and after 30 years of having active job involving lots of heavy lifting which now consists of tv remote or cup I’m not burning anything off.

It might be worth asking your GP if you can be referred to a dietitian and they should a able to come up with an eating plan. Weight gain is mostly caused by what, and how much we eat.
While exercise is great for general health and muscle strength, it’s probably only about 20% of the answer.

Thanks.
I’m actually not much heavier.
Think after 30 years of lifting and covering many miles a day to not going far has come back and bit me .
Il certainly ask go with regards to this.
Got an appointment with physio as well so here’s hoping my feet reappear sooner than later.

l tried everything losing weight for 20 years without success but finally had great success last year. In my opinion exercise is useless the only thing that works is restricting what you eat, what worked for me was fasting, going 3 days a week eating almost nothing, then the other 4 days eating normaly, three meals a day healthy food , l lost lots of weight that way

That sounds like a plan jjim
Much appreciated, very stupidly thought no pain no gain and went for a very long walk which in hindsight wasn’t my best plan ever.
Paid the price the next couple of days , I will try the fasting idea and see how that works out.

Are you on meds that aren’t helping? Neuropathic painkillers like Neurontin and gabapentin are notorious for weight gain. Other common things like mirtazapine for depression can do the same (I found it temporarily replaced gloomy thoughts with an obsession with cake). It isn’t always possible or even desirable to switch meds for weight management reasons, but sometimes there are oK alternatives and it might be worth exploring with the pharmacist or GP.

Hi Alison
My meds had crossed my mind , I’ve been blaming my lack of being an active person.
I have an appointment this week with my ms nurse so will be asking her advice on my very sudden weight gain.
