power plate

Hi, I am thinking of buying a Power Plate machine to help with muscle weakness in leg, but they are very expensive - does anyone out there have experience of using one of these before I consider investing please? Many thanks. Marion

Hi Marion

I bought one but found the vibration made the nerves in my legs shudder. I found it quite painful. I have put the machine in the loft and as I don’t use it I will probably sell it. Unfortunately it wasn’t for me.

I bought a domestic power-plate about 2 years ago, and use it 3-4 times every week, for only 10 minutes at a time !!

In those 2 years, the range of ‘stances’ I am physically strong enough to adopt has decreased considerably, so I don’t believe it has made any positive difference to me at all. Of course, I simply don’t know whether my physical strength & balance would be even worse by now without the plate? It’s become a habit now - part of the routine - but I sadly feel that our level of physical deterioration is pre-decided so no matter what we do, the ‘decision’ has already been made and nothing is going to affect the fate that’s already been decided for us !!

Don’t know if this makes any sense to people, but I keep trying all sorts of things - and will continue to do so - despite often feeling I’m just wasting my time and money !!

Hey ho !! (…he says with a shrug of resignation)

hi

i sometimes use one at our local (ish) ms therapy centre.

if you have one locally it may be worth a visit to try one out.

our local gym has 4.

maybe at your nearest gym you could have a trial day.

i would not buy one.

Why wouldn’t you buy one? Mx

I use one at my gym and it definitely helps with circulation, but not sure there are any other benefits. If you want to address specific areas of weakness, then working with a physio is likely to produce better results.

l bought one several years ago - Mine cost me about £120 - Lanaform. l like it because it does not take up too much room.

ln 10 mins of some straight forward exercises you feel as if you have had a couple of hours work out - for doing nothing.

Worth looking at youtube videos of power plate exercises. But do see if you find a gym or therapy centre where you can try one. They are often the most popular machine at the gym - apart from the chocolate vending machine.

When I used one at the gym I got a lot of l’hermittes for about 20 minutes after I used it. My neuro physio does not recommend them for those that suffer with MS especially if they have had a few doses of steriods.

The instructions at the gym recommend those with inflammation not to use them and MS is an inflammatory condition. I reckon the machine was causing infammation in the lesion in my neck which was causing the l’hermittes and it took 20 minutes for this vibration induces inflammation to settle down.

It may help your muscles but I think it may just upset your nervous system,

Physio at my MS Therapy Centre put me on one once, but sitting down so that the chair tok my weight, and only the legs got exercised. They have a preference for powered cycling machines.

hiya

theres no way i could manage one but this reminded me that i had to get rid of my foot bath vibrating thing cos it made me feel ill/sick. anything that stimulates nerves should be treated with caution…

fitness and weight loss aspects are questionable but the correct exercises have amazing medical credibility. They will strengthen and maintain the human body in a lot of ways if the person had a healthy diet etc

Gyms got them these days. Tanning salons have them. There are even small dedicated gyms for powerplates only these days. 10-20 mins is a max recommend exercise routine daily so pretty fast . If None of these are an option then if u can get the financial, start up a small business. Be on to a winner lol
