‘Cannabis ingredient to be classed as medicine in UK as it helps calm patients down’ (CBD, but not the THC also found in cannabis)
The Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said cannabis-based ingredient cannabidiol is an effective medicine in calming people down
I saw this on the news yesterday. I guess it`s sativex, which is a cannabis derivative, used in medicine, as a pretty good painkiller. Several members here already have it prescribed on the nhs.
Some others get it but have to pay an extortionate amount of money for a better life.
We`ll probably see a lot of replies here about this.

It would seem Sativex has more components than CBD. I looked into Sativex and it’s formulated extract of the cannabis sativa plant that contains the principal cannabinoids THC and CBD as well as specific minor cannabinoids and other non-cannabinoid components. (I think it has a low THC level and high CBD level)
CBD oil from what I have read has been fairly easy to get hold of via the Internet but there’s no regulation of what is actually in the oil/it’s quality.

Don’t forget that Sativex contains both THC and CBD but benefits from extensive trials and from being licensed by NICE. The problem lies with the fact that the NHS in England and Scotland will not fund it under its prescription scheme. Lucky people who live in Wales can obtain it under prescription.
Physicians in England and Scotland can make individual applications to the NHS for the funding of Sativex by prescription but, inevitably, the dreaded postcode lottery applies. Let’s play Disability Bingo!
CBD is a bit of a minefield. Any producer making claims for it as a medicine must obtain a licence from the government to sell it as such. That is good for the consumer, as the licensing process should ensure that the product ‘does what it says on the tin’. So far so good, but it still may be possible for producers to sell CBD as a food supplement without a licence, as long as no medical claims are made.

This article suggests that physicians should be able to prescribe CBD products but further clarification is needed. How many producers will have their licences in place to meet these demands?

Hi guys, I have been diagnosed just over a year with r&r ms but it took 18mths for me to get a firm diagnosis.
I was put on tecfidera but that wasn’t successful. Then I was put on plegrady and I thought everything was going OK but 2 days before Christmas I went for a mri and it turns out I have 4 new lesions on my brain. As far as I’m led to believe going on plegrady from tecfidera was a big step down. So my question is is my treatment plan maximising my chances of not going into relapse? I can still remember feeling normal but now I feel like the me is being drained out of me( if that makes any sense)
I’m doing everything that’s being said and I feel like I’m 1 step forward and two steps back. Ms is a queer bitch! My friends and family do their best to understand but honestly I don’t think anyone can!l is there any indication how slow/fast this awful mind f***** disease is going to drain all of me?
I know we are all different but I would dearly love a reply from someone even semi understands. I’m beginning to wonder if I have ms or am I just effing mental… thank Paul

do not worry, you are not alone. for sure your own particular set of symptoms and thus challenges remain fairly unique to yourself, but the fears, anxieties and indeed, the mind fuckedness of it all, are things we can all share and empathise with.
as for the regressive nature of your drug therapy… it is tough to say. But as a tecfidera user myself, i would be interested to learn of what criteria was used to conclude that it was not the drug for you.

Anyone watch Mrs Brown’s Boys - l saw it last night. And grandad’s doctor has prescribed cannabis as a painkiller!! OF course Agnes bakes brownies with it in - and they all get very relaxed and merry. Good for lreland.
THC is the part of cannabis that gets you high, so I am surprised to learn it is in Sativex!

There is a lot to learn about the benefits of cannabis.
Out of interest does anyone know what type of MS symptoms CBD helps with? CBD on it’s own I mean, not street cannabis or Sativex. I know some MSers have used CBD oil.
CBD Brothers UK - sell all sorts of CBD oil/capsules etc. And the facebook group CBD Users UK will give you even more info.
I have struggles with aches and pains but everyone says that " I look so well,even though you have MS" but my mental health is a struggle and i was on citalopram and now on prozac due to weight gain issues but would dearly love to take something natural to help with my MS. Therefore I hope we have some movement on cannabis for MS.
